About us
The 49th Cardiff (1st Rumney) Scout Group is the local Scout Group for the Rumney and Llanrumney areas of Cardiff, with origins dating back to October 1925.
We consist of 3 sections: Beavers (for 6 to 8 year olds), Cubs (8 to 10½) and Scouts (10½ to 14). There is some flexibility in the age to move between sections to suit individual circumstances. All sections are open to members of either gender. Each section meets separately, although some activities are arranged for more than 1 section or for the whole Group.
We have close linkage with the Red Dragons Explorer Scout Unit (14 to 18), they meet in our hall on Tuesdays (7:30pm to 9pm).
The Group has an Executive Committee, which is predominately made up of parents/carers. The Executive Committee make decisions and carry out administrative tasks to ensure that the best quality Scouting can be delivered to young people in the Group.
Fundamentals of Scouting

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. |
The Values of Scouting |
As Scouts we are guided by these values:
Integrity |
We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal. |
Respect |
We have self-respect and respect for others. |
Care |
We support others and take care of the world in which we live. |
Belief |
We explore our faiths, beliefs and attitudes. |
Cooperation |
We make a positive difference; we cooperate with others and make friends. |
|
The Scout Method |
Scouting takes place when young people, in partnership with adults, work together based on the values of Scouting and:
- enjoy what they are doing and have fun;
- take part in activities indoors and outdoors;
- learn by doing;
- share in spiritual reflection;
- take responsibility and make choices;
- undertake new and challenging activities; and
- make and live by their Promise.
